2013 Theme Song:
Ephesians 2:8-10 and 4:1

John Bunyan, as a prisoner for the Lord, wrote a book that has challenged countless generations to walk worthy of the calling. The Pilgrim’s Progress from This World to That Which is to Come (1678) is second only to the Bible as the most widely read Christian book in history. This beloved book has stirred affections for Christ for nearly 400 years.

The apostle Paul, as a prisoner for the Lord, also wrote a book – the letter to the Ephesians - that has challenged countless generations to walk worthy of the calling. The theme of walking weaves throughout the letter, tying together Paul’s proclamation of the Gospel.

Two books, written by two prisoners, with two challenges to walk – this is the theme of Twin Lakes 2013. Through the lens of Pilgrim’s Progress, we will dig into the book of Ephesians, using Ephesians 4:1-3 as our theme text:

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Bunyan’s Pilgrim, named Christian, looked upon the Cross, his Burden falling off his back and rolling into the Open Tomb. In that great exchange, Christian experienced the joys of Justification: receiving 3 gifts – forgiveness of sins, clean robes in exchange for his filthy rags, and a document sealing his entry to the Celestial City – the imputed righteousness of Jesus.

But Christian did not stop at his Justification: he persevered because of his justification. We want our campers to know this: to walk worthy, they must be given the worthiness of Christ (Ephesians 2:8-10). We hope they respond to the sovereign calling of God through His Word, walk Justified, walk Sanctified, and walk towards Glory – persevering to the end, with Jesus’ document inscribed on their hearts. Finally we hope, as Spurgeon once said of John Bunyan, that our campers and staff would be so filled with Scripture that if you prick them anywhere – their blood would be Bibline.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Called to walk by the Father’s Love
Justified by the Son
Sanctified by the Spirit
Pilgrims making slow progress to Glory

Chorus:
So walk in a manner worthy of the calling
To which you have been called

For by grace you have been saved
Through faith and not by works
It is the gift of God, in Christ
Created for good works that we should walk in them
